Starting this blog has highlighted something for me: I don’t do anything interesting on a day-to-day basis.
In the last year I’ve been to the Canary Islands for a week, Colorado for a month, Paris for a fortnight, and visited Italy twice.
I’ve spent four days hiking in the Lake District in December snow, and four more walking in the French/Italian alps in glorious sunshine.
I’ve been canoeing, kayaking, go-karting, running, mountain biking and horse riding. I’ve played rugby, tennis and football.
But ask me to write about what happens here on an average day, and I’d be stumped.
What do I do? Who do I meet? Where does all my time go?
It’s a very dull mystery…

Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.— George W Bush (9)
