Die photos, die!

22nd October 2004, late morning | Comments (34)

If you’ve ever written me an email you’ll know that I’m not very good at keeping up to date with my correspondence. My stock defense is that I receive more than my fair share of emails and it usually takes me a while to answer them all, but in truth I’m just rather lazy.

Each day I’d say I get about: six I-love-you-here’s-a-cutsie-picture-of-my-friend’s-dogs’ from The Girlfriend; one or two why-haven’t-you-written-are-you-dead’s from friends and family; a couple of WOW-MY-C.O.C.K-IS-BIGGER-WITH-V.I.4.G.R.A bits of spam; and then a sizeable chunk of comments, alerts, errors, and feedback from the blog.

Recent feedback has fallen into one of three categories:

  1. What great photos, it’s really lovely to see San Francisco through another person’s eyes. Keep up the good work!
  2. Hey Dunstan, I love your pictures, but don’t forget to write a web article now and then, eh? ;o)
  3. I am very annoyed!! I demand an immediate end to all photography on your site and the re-emergence of many, many, very helpful web articles, right now!!! And hurry up for god’s sake, I have a contract to complete and I want you to explain how you did X so I can steal it and tell the client I made it!!! RAAAAAAAAA!!!!

To the writers of emails which fall into the first two categories I’d like to say thank you, your kind words are much appreciated.

To the writers of emails which fall into that third category, I’d like to offer up this visual image in place of a written response. I hope the irony of that is not lost on your tiny brains.

To everyone else, I’d like to say I’ll soon be returning to a balanced mixture of photography, web articles, and babbling nonsense; just stay calm and relaxed while you wait for that to happen. In the meantime here are some pictures of the cutsie dogs that The Girlfriend sends me:

Montage of dogs

Look! He’s wearing a hat! And he’s a dog! How about that…

    Ignore everybody except The Girlfriend.

I'm designing a site all about cute dogs. Continue posting pictures so I can steal them and tell the client that they're mine!!! RAAAAAAAAA!!!!

    "Die photos, die!" ?! Chicken!!!

First mistake of the day, clicking the "I offer up this visual image in place of a written response." link while sitting next to my daughter. ahem...

I dig the kind of zooming effect with the tongue! Either that, or he/she is pretty well-endowed. Tongue-wise... =)

    Cute doggy, indeed.

I share your sentiment, Jon. It <em>was</em> funny though.

Ha, ha, ha! Silly Dunstan! They just made you write an article, RAAAAA!
You have much studying to do before becoming a true snubbing padawan :-)

Wasn't my first mistake of the day (It's been a long day, can't wait for the weekend to start), but for the love... did you have to include that link?

Yes, I am waiting for more web design articles to (*ahem*) enlighten me for my own personal growth, but I can't say too much since I don't think I've written anything on my site in a week and a half.

Eh, tell the anti-photo freaks to bugger off and write some code-oriented pieces themselves. You've given plenty to your audience.

I am biased though, as I am a huge fan of photography. ::shrug::

I really dig your photos, so I hope you keep posting them here and there.

I'm thinking your girlfriend might like this:

Particularly the dog at the end. It's kind of disturbing, but entirely work safe.

Ahhhh. People. Can't live with 'em...

Oh and that doggie is pretty damn cute. Oh, oh, your spell checker is pretty fancy. Doen't know the word "doggie" but whatever. It's still cool.

Dunstan, it's YOUR blog. Post whatever the hell you like! Who said it was a 'design articles only' site? I really enjoy the photos myself, they are always high-class. If you never posted another article and just kept to photos, I'd still love the site.

(Oh, and love the dog with a cap! Cute expression!)

    *sigh*

I had sort of the same problem with a smarty-pants "reader" recently...

Long time reader, first time poster.

Why not write a book about all your comp tricks? If people want to know how you do things, they can buy it and at least you get some kind of compensation for people stealing your code.

And I agree with Chris Hester. It's your blog, so do whatever you want.

I hope the visa situation gets resolved soon. Unfortunately, I know too well how frustrating it can be to deal with that stuff.

I'd very likely buy such a book. I don't tend to buy books from the "other" web "gurus" because I don't particularly care for their style, but I am a fan of yours.

It's the same with my email; I have a few sitting in my inbox dating back to July this year and a girl who seems to be stalking me because I didn't reply to her email in under a week (or maybe it's because she's nuts).

Sometimes I wish my computer would crash and I could go "oh dear, all the emails are gone, bad windows!"

At last, a positive selling point for those of us who use Windows, maybe they should add that to the list of features.

You could advertise it as 'Random Spam Removal Tool'

Oooh, like the 'jump to the comments form' auto-scroll thingy- very nice!

I'm gonna have to disagree on the dog-front there, squire. The one on the left looks like he's having the snip! (Ouch!)

Loving the site- really nice and tidy.

Keep up the good work (every now and then ;) )

Funny, I want to see more photos and coffee shop stories and less of those annoying web related posts. They were never very interesting or well written anyway and just got in the way of the main purpose of this blog. Documenting your life as an international man of mystery.

    :-p
